From one freelancer to a specialist SEO agency
Rank Rays started with Muhammad Shakeel, an SEO specialist working on Upwork back in 2013, when the platform was still called oDesk. SEO was a different craft then: manual, methodical, and unforgiving of shortcuts. Reputation wasn’t built with marketing. It was built one project at a time, through thorough audits, honest communication, and backlinks earned from real websites rather than link farms.
The work kept coming. Clients returned, referrals followed, and eventually the workload outgrew what one person could do well. So the practice grew the only way that made sense: by bringing in people who were genuinely good at specific parts of the job. A link building expert. An outreach specialist who could land placements on real sites. Researchers who dig into competitors and keywords properly. A content writer who writes for readers first and algorithms second.
That team became Rank Rays, a 10+ member agency based in Lahore, Pakistan, with a UK office, serving clients around the world.
